Ivy Cottage and Laurel Cottage

GV
II

2 cottages. Probably mid C19. Plastered cob and rubble; rubble stacks topped
with C19 and C20 brick; thatched roof. Pair of semi-detached cottages facing
south, away from the road, with Ivy Cottage on left (west) and Laurel Cottage on
right (east). Both are 2-room plan cottages with probably contemporary rear
outshots. Ivy Cottage has rear diagonal stack to left room and axial stack in party
wall serving right room. Laurel Cottage has axial stack. End room of Laurel
Cottage is offset slightly forward suggesting that it is an addition. Both 2
storeys. Ivy Cottage has balanced 3-window front of late C19 and C20 copy casements
with glazing bars and roughly central doorway with C20 gabled and slate-roofed porch
on plain posts. Roof hipped on left end. Laurel Cottage has irregular 3-window
front of C20 casements. Late C19 4-panel door left of centre with monopitch thatch-
roofed porch and small C20 extension with corrugated asbestos roof at left end.
Roof hipped to right.
Interiors have plain carpentry detail where exposed although left end room Ivy
Cottage) has C17 chamfered and scroll-stopped beam (presumably reused). Ivy Cottage
has C19 King post roof.
