Barn. C16. Timber frame on low brick sill, dark weatherboarded with very
steep pitched roof formerly thatched but now of corrugated asbestos. A
tall, 3-bays barn facing W into yard, with tall double doors to middle
bay. Catslide rear extension in middle and S bays. Heavy chamfered jowls
to bay-posts, unjowled mid-bay posts, mid-height rail jointed in-line.
Straight braces to tie-beams and to wallplates in middle bay. Straight
tension-braces above mid-height rail in walls. Inclined straight struts
to collars of clasped-purlin roof structure. Simple splayed scarf joints
in purlins. Winnowing door to rear of middle bay. Strainer collars
between purlins at mid-bay. Series of joint assembly numbers. Unusual
edge-halved scarf joint in wallplate with off-centre bridled butts and
2 heavy face-pegs.
