Description

SK 8411 - 8511 LANGHAM CHURCH STREET (South side)

2/153 Wall, gate piers and
gates to Old Hall grounds

GV II

Wall, surrounding Old Hall grounds on 3 sides (north, west and south) with
gate piers to former entrance, and 2 small doorways giving access to hall
grounds and to Old Hall cottage on Burley Road. Probably largely of
early C20, but with some C18 sections. Wall of coursed sandstone rubble
with curved brick coping, and an older section to the west of banded
sandstone and ironstone, coursed and squared. Two piers incorporated
in this section with facetted ball finials, and a small gateway with
segmental arched head, stone voussoirs and projecting keystones and
heavily panelled door with good door finishes, possibly by Goodhart Rendel.
The wall continues in the south, and there is a small 4-centred arched
doorway through to Old Hall Cottage, with heavy wood doors.
