Farmhouse. Mid-to late C18 with minor mid-and late C19 additions. Red
brick; hipped slate roof with sprocketed leaves. U-plan. Two storeys and
attic. Plinth, dentil brick eaves cornice (bricks placed on end) and
central gabled eaves dormer with horizontal-sliding glazing bar sash. Brick
ridge stack off-centre to right and on rear wing to left. South-west (garden)
front; Three bays; 3-12-:3-light segmental-headed small paned C19 wooden casements.
Pair of C20 French casements to right. One-bay addition to right with parapet
and 2-light segmental-headed wooden casement to each floor. Further lower
2-storey hipped-roofed addition to right. Late C20 glazed lean-to addition
in front to right. Left-hand return front: central gabled eaves dormer with
horizontal-sliding glazing bar sash. First-floor segmental-headed small
paned C20 wooden cross window off-centre to right and ground-floor 2-light
segmental-headed small-paned C19 wooden casement. Four steps up to pair of
half-glazed doors to right; early C19 flat-roofed wooden porch with cast side
panels and cornice. 2 gabled wings at rear and gabled recessed centre
segmental-headed small-paned wooden cross windows. INTERIOR: late C18 staircase
at rear with closed string, turned balusters and square newel posts. Doors
with H-hinges. This house is particularly notable for its interesting plan
form. The owner (March 1986) reports that a barn (now demolished) on the
farm was dated 1772.
