5/14 Rose Cottage and Old
School House
II
House, now divided into 2. Probably C17, extended in early C19 with
later additions and alterations. Timber framed with painted brick infill,
painted brick and rubblestone casing, machine tile roofs. L-plan with
flush cross-wing (Old School House) to left and extended former hall
(Rose Cottage) to right. One storey and attic; framing: exposed to
Old School House, one rectangular and one square panel from cill to wall-
plate, long straight tension braces and V-struts from collar to front
gable; irregular fenestration, one late C19 cast-iron latticed casement
on each floor to cross-wing and 3 late C20 casements to former hall, one
to left and 2 to right of roughly central entrance, 2 contemporary flat-
roofed eaves dormers above; axial red brick ridge stack to left of hall
range with end stacks to right and to rear gable of cross-wing; entrance
to Old School House in left return. Interior: not inspected but said to
retain timber frame substantially intact.
