Almshouse group. Circa 1912 . By Sir Ernest George. Red brick with red brick
rusticated quoins and dressings, hipped plain tiled roofs. Tall panelled centre
stacks. 3 blocks around a square with arches angled across, joining the blocks at
the corners. Single storey with two windows, and outer entrance arches.
Whiteley Village was provided by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores for thrifty
old folk and was laid out on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson,employing leading
architects of the day.
