Description

BALCHIN'S LANE, WESCOTT
1.
1049
The Old Mill House
TQ 14 NW 6/85

II

2.
Early C19. 2 storeys, 4 windows. Painted brick. Tiled roof. Ordinary
sash windows, with glazing bars intact, on 1st floor. French windows and
sliding sash windows below.
This was the house to a mill built over a stream at the edge of a lake behind.
Little now remains of this except for arches of brick which span the stream
and through which water still flows. Above is part of the original walling
of sandstone rubble enclosing a cellar within. Space above ground floor
level now occupied by a modern house. A reference was made to a mill on
this site in Domesday Book.
