Detached house, now office and flats and attached railings.
c1820-34, shown on Merrett's 1834 Map but not on the Post
Office Map of 1820. Ashlar over brick with hipped slate roof,
2 left stucco and brick stacks and wrought-iron balcony and
railings.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with basement, 4 first-floor windows.
First- and second-floor bands, crowning frieze and cornice
with blocking course. 6/6 sashes throughout, those to first
floor are taller; sills to ground and second floors. Flight of
roll-edged steps to 6-fielded-panel door with fanlight with
batwing and circle glazing bars. All openings in plain reveals
and with sills. Basement has 6/6 sashes.
Right return a 3-window range with further outshut: main range
has blind openings, 6/6 sash to outshut.
INTERIOR: noted as retaining original joinery including
panelled shutters and 6-panel doors, otherwise not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: continuous first-floor balcony has
embellished rods with scroll frieze. Railings to sides of
steps have lancet or stick balusters.
Occupies an important corner site.
