Pair of semi-detached villas and attached railings. 1840-1.
Built by Abraham Tyler, builder, who had completed many houses
in Pittville. Stucco over brick with shallow hipped roof with
stucco and party-wall and rear stacks; iron railings. Double
depth plan with inner side hallways and 2-lower-storey service
ranges to rear.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys on basement, 6 first-floor windows. 6/6
sashes where original, all in plain reveals and with sills.
Paired central porch has Doric pillars to ends and centre and
engaged pilasters; flight of roll-edged steps to 4-panel
doors, the upper panels raised and fielded. lower panels
flush, with sidelights and overlights with margin lights.
Raised and coped divide with kneeler to roof. Rear retains 8/8
sash with margin lights and 6/6 sashes.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Area railings to left have X-motif.
Arrowhead forecourt railings and gates with urn finials.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Built as part of the development of this area
undertaken for Joseph Pitt in 1835-42, the general layout
being designed by the architect John Forbes. Houses to the NW
side of Prestbury Road are shown as laid out on Merrett's Map
of 1834.
Nos 32-66 (even) (qqv) form a group.
