GV II

Pair of semi-detached villas with attached railings and gate.
c1820-50. Ashlar over brick with concealed roof, ridge and
left end stuccoed stacks, and wrought-iron balconies and
railings.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys on basement, 6 first-floor windows
arranged 1:4:1, with end entrance ranges set back; further
service range set well back to left. Ashlar detailing includes
ground-floor band surmounted by end pilasters with sunk panels
through ground and first floors to ends of central range;
tooled first-floor sill band to central range. 6/6 sashes
where original, taller to ground floor; house to right has
blind boxes to all openings; basement has 3/6 sashes; all in
plain reveals and with sills. End entrance:
6-flush-and-fielded-panel doors with overlights with
margin-lights where original within architraves with pilasters
with sunk panel, frieze and cornice. Crowning frieze and
cornice to end ranges, central range has wide eaves on simple
brackets.
INTERIOR: retain original joinery including panelled shutters
to windows and No.21 has dogleg staircase with stick balusters
and wreathed handrail, otherwise not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: ground-floor window guards have elongated
scroll pattern and central scrolled lozenge motif. Railings to
sides of steps have scrolled lozenge. Railings and gate at
left and between plots have fleurs-de-lys to head.
