Terrace of 6 houses, now shops and offices, and attached
railings. c1810-20 with later additions and alterations
including C20 shop fronts. 3 houses to left are stepped
forwards. Stucco over brick with concealed roof and brick
right end and party-wall stacks; iron balconies and railings.
EXTERIOR: mainly 2 storeys, 3 storeys to left, with attics and
basements, 18 first-floor windows (3 per house), attics to Nos
12 and 13. Stucco detailing includes horizontal rustication to
ground floor of Nos 11, 13 and 14 and rustication to ground
floors of Nos 15 and 16; continuous first-floor band,
surmounted to right end and between houses by 3 Doric
pilasters with sunk panels; second-floor band at left,
crowning entablature and blocking course. 6/6 sashes where
original. Central window to second floor at left is blind.
Shop fronts to Nos 12, 13 and 14: bow windows with dentil
frieze, those 2 to left with multi-panes. Entrances: steps to
C20 glazed door with fanlight with batwing and circle type
glazing bars; then C20 glazed door with overlight; then
6-fielded-panel doors where original with elliptically-arched
overlights with decorative Gothic and radial glazing bars.
Attic dormers.
INTERIOR: noted as retaining original joinery and plasterwork;
Nos 11 and 16 retain dogleg staircase with stick balusters and
wreathed handrail; embellished cornices with acanthus.
Otherwise not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: arrowhead area railings to four houses to
left, otherwise bars and dogbars with urn finials stamped W
Wheeler at Nos 11, 13 and 14. At left are individual balconies
to most first- and second-floor windows with scrolled lozenge
motif.
HISTORICAL NOTE: HS Merrett, architect and surveyor to the

Pittville Estate from 1835-6 lived at No.15 in 1836; in 1850
the same house was occupied by Richard Low, an American and
proprietor of the Cheltenham Photographic Institution.
