Terrace of 3 houses, now offices and shop, and attached area
railings. c1820-50 with later alterations to ground floor at
right. Stucco over brick with concealed roof and end and
party-wall stacks; iron railings.
PLAN: double depth with side hallways.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys on basement, 9 first-floor windows. Stucco
detailing includes rustication to ground floor; first-floor
band; first-floor windows have incised Greek key motif; frieze
and cornice over first floor; crowning frieze, cornice and
blocking course. 6/6 sashes where original in plain reveals
and with sills; centre windows to second floor to right and
left dwellings are blind; ground floor shop window at right is
a C20 bow with multi-pane glazing. Left entrances: flights of
renewed steps to 5-panel doors in panelled reveals and with
cambered overlights, that to left with batwing and circle
motif to glazing bars, that to right has inverted teardrop and
central circle; 2 to left with voussoirs to heads and in plain
reveals, that to right in Doric porch with entablature and
blocking course.
INTERIOR: No.20 retains dogleg staircase with stick balusters
and wreathed handrail, simple cornices, some with fleurons;
otherwise not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: arrowhead area railings with urn finials
to stanchions.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Regent Street was originally made up of
houses, boarding houses and hotels.
