Pair of semi-detached villas and attached railings. c1834-40
with later additions and alterations. Stucco over brick with
hipped slate roof to main range and stucco party-wall stacks;
iron railings and balconies.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys on basements, 6 first-floor windows (3:3)
with single-tall-storey, 2-bay range to right. Stucco
detailing includes ground-floor band surmounted by Doric
pilasters between windows, paired to party-wall, surmounted by
shaped frieze forming wide, segmental-arched openings over
windows; projecting outer porches have similar Doric pilasters
and entablature, the cornice of which forms part of the
moulded first-floor string course and is surmounted by similar
pilasters to ends and between windows, paired to party-wall.
Wide eaves. Range to right has plinth surmounted by outer and
central Doric pilasters, entablature and blocking course; 2
blind openings. Main range has 6/6 sashes, taller to ground
floor, with 6/6 and 8/8 sashes to basement. End entrances,
flights of 9 roll-edged steps to 3-panel doors with sidelights
and overlights.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: railings to sides of steps have stick
balusters; ground-floor balconies have embellished oval motif.
HISTORICAL NOTE: houses on Tivoli Road (originally known as
Tivoli) are shown as laid out on Merrett's Map of 1834.
