House, now flats. c1780.

MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, rubble to basement; double pile parapeted roof, concrete tile to front, covering not visible to rear, with two ashlar stacks to right. Staircase to front.

EXTERIOR: Three storeys and basement; two-window front. First floor has six/six sash in splayed reveal with stone sill with wrought iron balconette to right, similar nine/six sash to left. Second floor has two six/six sashes, to right with horns, in similar reveals. Ground floor has similar six/six sash to right, to left three-panel door with reeded panel, and moulded panel with applied moulding forming diamond panel with C19 knocker and moulded glazed panel (cf. Nos. 2, 3 & 4 Ainslie's Belvedere qv) in pedimented Doric doorcase with fluted frieze, small window to left of door; one step to Pennant paved crossover with C19 cast iron footscraper. Basement has six/six sash in plain reveal with splayed jambs with stone sill, C20 door under crossover. Band course over ground floor, moulded eaves cornice and coped parapet all continuous with No. 4 Ainslie's Belvedere (qv). Rear elevation has one eight/eight sash with wrought iron balconette to each of basement, ground and first floors, to first floor with horizontal bars removed forming four/four sash, two six/six sashes with wrought iron balconettes to second floor. Small C20 window to basement, ground and first floor, small extension with C20 window.

INTERIOR: Not inspected.

SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Attached wrought iron railings with shaped heads on buns on Pennant bases.

HISTORY: Dated by Ison to 1780, the Bath Chronicle reported an `Auction of the estate known as Ainslies's Belvedere, being 6 substantial dwelling houses' on 27.11.1794. A William Ainslie was one of the original lessees of a house in The Circus.
