Public house, and house, formerly three terrace houses. Late C18 and early C19, converted to public house circa 1860.

MATERIALS: Painted limestone ashlar, double Roman tile mansard roof to No.19, slate to No.20.

EXTERIOR: No.19 two storeys, attic and basement, replacement windows, with dormer above two windows at first floor, and flat roofed front extension with large paired window. Moulded cornice continued from adjacent No.18 (qv), blocking course has been removed. Cropped stack to right. No. 20 three storeys and basement, with one window, tripartite plain sash at first and second floors, above flat roofed brought forward pub extension with segmental parapet above part-glazed door to deep three-pane transom light, and large paired sash with stone mullion. Above first floor lintel, frieze and moulded cornice, with further cornice, blocking course and parapet to second floor. Two stacks to the party division between Nos 20 and 21 (qv), very broad gables conceal double roof with central valley. Rear in coursed rubble, with painted ashlar to top floor of No.20, and two storey cottages have been built in parallel, with small yard. No.20 has plain sashes.

INTERIORS: Not inspected. No 20: the pub interior has been opened out and altered in a rustic, heavily beamed manner. This involved the extension, in 1967, of the pub into the former shop within 19 Claverton Buildings. The pub was refurbished by the Ushers Brewery in 1985, when the equipment of the Old Ram Brewery was removed.

Nos 20 and 21 (qv) appear to have been part of a terrace originally encompassing Nos 20 to 25 (qv), but with probably C19 modifications. The opening of `The Ram' is recorded in the Bath Express, 16th June 1860.
