Pedestal base to former urn. C18.
MATERIALS: Limestone. Circular base to former urn rests on stepped plinth over an acanthus leaf cornice, to each facet carved laurel wreath, moulded plinth.
HISTORY: It is not known what urn surmounted this pedestal. The type was a standard production from C18 Bath masons' yards, visible (for instance) in mid-C18 engravings of Prior Park. Victoria Park was laid out in 1830 on the former Barton Fields, an area of common land and was opened by the Duchess of Kent with her daughter, Princess Victoria, on October 23rd 1830. It was the country's first municipal park.
