Pair of terrace houses. c1822 with late C19 alterations. Possibly by John Pinch the Elder.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, continuous slate roof with moulded stack to party wall.
PLAN: Double depth.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys and lower ground floor. Each house two-window range. Continuous coped parapet and first floor sill band. No. 9 to right has late C19 horned plate glass sash windows, semicircular arched recesses to ground floor, decorative six-panel door to left with hipped, swept canopy over trellised porch. To right of door small decoratively glazed circular window. No. 10 has six/six-pane sash windows, door similar to that of No. 9 glazed to top, and no porch.
INTERIORS: Not inspected.
HISTORY: This development on the Bathwick Estate took its name from Henry Vane, 4th Earl of Darlington who succeeded to the estate of the Countess of Bath in 1808. John Pinch the Elder was associated with much of the development on this estate. The site was conveyed by Lord Darlington in 1822.
