No.2
05/08/75

GV II

House in row. Late C18 or early C19 c1800, possibly with earlier Fabric, with C20 additions.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, but rear partly in coursed rubble, concrete tile roof.
PLAN: Single depth house.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys raised to three, two window fronts, all twelve pane sash to bold square sills, glazing bars reinstated since the last survey (1975). To right original flush six panel door with very shallow five pane transom light, under flat hood to moulded edge on shaped brackets, to left blocked former opening, and some evidence in ashlar to upper floors that there were formerly central windows. Coped right gable small square stack, and larger stack to left. Rear has two wide-spaced plain sashes to upper floor, in good ashlar walling, but below rubble wall, with small central slit light and very small square light to right, above glazed conservatory to left, and stone outshut with slate roof, and eaves stack, over door and window, to right. Lower walling suggests earlier structure than remainder.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
Altered in 1991. A plainly fronted later Georgian house, belonging to the earliest phase of development in this part of south-east Bath. (Bath Archaeological Trust/RCHM England: Georgian Bath Historical Map: Southampton: 1989-).
