Large detached house. Mid to late C18 (OS says post-1776), extended early C19 and C20.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar or coursed rubble, slate roof.
PLAN: Compact symmetrical block, extended to rear early C19 with three storey bay.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, five windows, all twelve pane sash, with floating cornices at first floor, and with central Doric pediment portico with triglyph frieze, panelled door flanked by sashes. Modillion cornice, blocking course and parapet, swept up at ends to square pedestals carrying urn finials. Roof hipped to left, coped gable, right, with two stage ashlar stack to plain coursed rubble wall. Right return extended with rendered angular bay range with twelve pane sash to sill bands at first and second floors, single storey full depth later addition, including full height external stack to main gable. Left return has blind lights to original end wall with parapet, extended left, with twelve pane sash above pair of French casements to balcony railing, and ground floor window. This unit, with hipped return, has two small stacks. Rear not seen.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
Formerly isolated on this commanding hillside site, this was one of the earlier suburban villas to be erected in this part of south-east Bath.
