House, now shop. c1762 altered 1910. Elevation for Milsom Street buildings approved by the Council in 1761 (Minutes 30th March 1761). Possibly by Thomas Jelly, shopfront by J Foster, shopfitter, 1910 with later alterations to windows.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front, ashlar and rubble to rear, double pile parapeted mansard roof, double Romans to front, triple Romans to rear, with coped party wall to right with two ashlar stacks with early clay pots.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic, basement and three-window front. First floor has three six/six sashes in splayed ovolo moulded architraves rising from lowered stone sills and with friezes and cornices with pediment to centre. Second floor has three six/six sashes with eared ovolo moulded architraves rising from stone sills. Ground floor has projecting shopfront of 1910 by J. Foster, with plate glass windows with curved panes to left and right angles, glazed door with overlight to centre, deep frieze and dentil cornice. No openings to basement. Two single dormers with six/six horned sashes. Modillion eaves cornice and coped parapet. Moulded lead hopperhead and downpipe attached to right shared with No.35 Milsom Street (qv). Rear elevation partially visible has ashlar extension off staircase up to second half-landing, six/six sash with wrought iron balconette to second floor, two single dormers with six/six horned sashes.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
HISTORY: Earlier shopfront by William Wilcox, architect c. 1862. Pull handle in the shape of an animal apparently re-used from the 1910 shopfront.
