Description

Mid 19th century. Single storey, 4-bay, L-plan cottage. Tooled, squared and snecked pink sandstone with broached dressings. Projecting cills; long and short quoins.

N (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: asymmetrical; 2 gabled bays advanced to left with small 2-pane window to each; blind vertical recess set in gablehead. Boarded timber door to penultimate bay to right; window to bay to outer right. Coped rubble wall with boarded timber door adjoining with No 4 Main Street (see separate listing).

W ELEVATION: asymmetrical; 2-bay. Canted window to centre of advanced gabled bay to right; window to bay to left.

S AND E ELEVATION: not seen 1998.

Variety of timer sash and case windows. Red pantiled roof with terracotta ridge; coped stone skews. Coped, harled gablehead and ridge stacks with circular cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen 1998.

Statement of Interest

Carrington Village was built to serve Carrington Mains (see separate listing) which is part of Rosebery Estate. No. 5 is similar in style but slightly later than the other cottages (see separate listings).
