Description

Mid-19th century hunting lodge for the Hopetoun Estate,
still (1990) partly in use as such, now also with a
public bar. 2-storey and attic, broad-eaved, H-plan with
service court adjoining at rear. Roughly squared rubble
with contrasting ashlar dressings.
W ELEVATION: 4-bay, roughly symmetrical: centre bays
recessed, with gabled porch projecting at ground to right
with 6-panelled door, and (?later) single storey piended,
canted bay to left, 1st floor windows breaking eaves in
gabled dormerheads. 2 outer bays advanced forming U-plan;
gable ends with a window to each floor. Flanks also with
gables. Asymmetrical single storey service ranges at rear.
Predominantly 12-pane sash and case windows, bracketted
eaves with plain barge boards, king posts and finials to
gables. Shouldered and corniced ashlar stacks with
slit-vent detail defining flues.
INTERIOR: original panelling plasterwork and fire
surrounds largely intact, barley-sugar cast-iron
balusters to main staircase.
