1896. Single storey, 3 bay cottage orne, with later small porch addition to rear. Droved sandstone ashlar with polished dressings. Chamfered reveals; overhanging eaves and pierced bargeboards to gables; kingpost detail to gableheads; chamfered reveals.
N (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 3 bay with base course; droved coursed sandstone; gabled porch advanced to centre bay with pierced bargeboards; panelled timber door with letterbox fanlight; stepped hoodmould enclosing hand bearing sword (emblem of Dewars of Vogrie) to centre; small window to left return; canted window in gabled bay to outer right with slate roof; small window to outer left.
W ELEVATION: symmetrical; tooled squared and snecked sandstone with droved dressings; long and short droved quoins; central gable with stone shield which reads "1896" set in gablehead; 2 windows symmetrically placed to base of gable.
S ELEVATION: M gabled; tooled squared and snecked with droved dressings; 20th century harled porch addition off centre to right, with glazed timber door and 3 pane windows to returns; 24 pane sash and case window centred in gable to right; small 3 pane window off centre to right of left gable; 20th century harled coal bunker below; wooden addition to outer left.
E ELEVATION: 2 bay; tooled squared and snecked with droved dressings; tripartite window with hoodmould in gabled bay to right; fixed window with top hopper in bay to left.
Combination of single pane and fixed with top hopper windows. Purple grey slate roof with lead ridge; cast iron rainwater goods; 2 coped ridge stacks.
INTERIOR: not seen 1997.
GATEPIERS, RAILINGS & GATES: polished sandstone gatepiers with stop chamfered angles, fluted frieze and corniced caps; finials missing; tooled squared and snecked coped sandstone boundary walls; decorative wrought iron railings and gates.
Very similar to the North Lodge (see separate listing) but plan reversed. It would appear from the 1st edition OS Map that there was always a lodge on this site, although as the datestone (1896) suggests the present lodge is not the original.
