Description

Earlier 18th century. 2 storey and attic; 3 bay with 1982 extension and conservatory to W. Rectangular plan house. Harled with polished and painted stone dressings.

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical with glazed timber door to centre; single windows to flanking bays; regular fenestration to 1st floor; harled extension by Mary Tindall (1982) to left with timber patio door and octagonal timber framed conservatory with harled base course in bay to outer left.

E ELEVATION: enlarged opening with timber door and glazed panel to right; enlarged window opening to left with 2 modern large pane pivot windows; central window to 1st floor; small 4 pane window above, to near centre of gablehead.

N ELEVATION: 3 bay, comprising 9 pane window to outer left and 4 pane sash and case windows to outer right and each bay of 1st floor.

W ELEVATION: 1982. 2 bay, with 2 modern large pane windows to ground floor; panel reading ?1982? set in gablehead.

Primarily 12 pane timber sash and case windows. Earlier 18th century building: graded grey slate roof with ventilation pipe to left of centre and large rooflight to right; lead ridge; cast iron rainwater goods; stone skews and coped harled gablehead stacks with circular cans. 1982 addition: red pantiled roof with terracotta ridge; cast iron rainwater goods to harled addition; plastic rainwater goods to conservatory.

INTERIOR: not seen 1997.

BOUNDARY WALL: random rubble; merges with rear elevations of outbuildings (see below).

OUTBUILDINGS: rectangular plan outbuilding to W of house: random rubble with pantiled roof; S elevation converted to double garage, with boarded timber doors; timber and glazed opening for dovecot to E elevation. Elongated rectangular plan lean to to SW of house: random rubble with pantiled roof; boarded timber door to outer right; wide opening with timber gate to outer left. Small rectangular plan lean to S of latter: squared rubble with replaced pantile roof; timber panelled door to left of E elevation; timber boarded wall to S elevation.

Statement of Interest

Ford Mill House, which was originally the miller's house retains much of its original character.
