Description

Early 19th century. 2-storey, 2-bay former house with door and later pend to ground, 2 windows above. Painted, cherry-caulked whinstone with droved sandstone tabs; raised and painted window and angle margins; eaves course and moulded eaves cornice.

INTERIOR: 1st floor: accessed from No 37 through timber panelled door with 8-pane letterbox fanlight. Room to front with original timber panelled doors and window embrasures with shutters.

Original timber sash and case 12-pane windows. Slate roof; coped ashlar end stack. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

Statement of Interest

The first floor is now used as annex to No 37 Eglinton Street (separately listed) and this arrangement probably came into place in the early 20th century when a stair was built from the rear of No 37. The pend was probably slapped through at this time also and the ground floor would have served as a shop or workshop (possibly a smithy), as is the case today. Built shortly after No 37 (circa 1805), the building is constructed with the same materials and form and would originally have had a single window to ground right.
