mausoleum standing on stepped plinth; 12 Ionic columns
suport entablature with raised centre armorial panels E and
W, each surmounted by swagged urn.
Pair small sarcophagi, one with no inscription and one dated

Statement of Interest

Of the 2 sarcophagi in the Gordon Tomb, one is uninscribed

and undated. This is the burial place of Jean Christie, wife

of the 4th Duke of Gordon, who died 21 August 1824. She was

a native of Fochabers and of humble origin. The second tomb

is that of her son Adam, of Newtongarrie (Aberdeenshire),

who died at Burnside, near Buckie, 14 August 1834.
