Description

Dated 1733, probably incorporating earlier fabric and on
earlier site. Long single storey rubble building, running
north/south, with ashlar faced wheel gable to south. Harl
pointed with tooled dressings crowsteps and re-used finials.
Rectangular kiln at north end, rising slightly higher than
mill, with single small piended dormers breaking through east
and west wallheads. Segmental headed doorway in east
elevation; simple chamfered architraves to blocked doorway in
west. Large door slapped in north gable and modern window in
south. 1641 datestone inserted in north gable, and 1733 in
south gable. Slate roof, part local slates; stone ridge.

Statement of Interest

Datestones initialled H.R. M.F. 1641 and H.R. I.R. 1733 (HR

for Hugh Rose of Kilravock) Mill interior gutted; wheel

removed; lade blocked; kiln ridge louvre removed. Precise

dating of such traditional building difficult; could be 1733

or a little later.
