Description

Dated 1797; mainly 2-storey house with substantial additions
by Alexander Ross, 1867, further additions to rear dated
1900. Rubble, tooled ashlar dressings, harled rubble rear.
2-storey, symmetrical 3-bay house with centre door under
re-cut datestone of 1797; flanking ground and 3 1st floor
Venetian windows. Centre gabled bay raised in 1867 with
pointed-headed 2-light window and apex stack; flanking gabled
dormers (also 1867).
Substantial 1867 2-storey wing projects as single gabled bay
at SW with irregular 6-bay return W elevation. Large 3-light
windows light drawing room at S and W corbelled wallhead
stack.
Multi-pane glazing with Gothic upper lights to early 3-bay
house; mainly 2-pane elsewhere. End stacks; slate roofs.
INTERIOR: 18th century staircase removed; some fielded
panelled doors survive. Otherwise interior reflects 1867 and
subsequent remodelling, with substantial 1867 staircase with
turned balusters.
DRAWING ROOM: embossed detailing to panelled doors and
chimneypiece.
DINING ROOM: similar, but smaller, chimneypiece as in drawing
room.
GARDEN WALLS: garden enclosed at N and W by brick walls.

Extensive range of service cottages to rear of house not

included in listing. Datestone of 1797 initialled RG - AG.

Datestone of 1900 to rear initialled WG AG.

Kincorth owned by members of the Grant family during 18th and

19th centuries.
