William Smith and William Bruce, architects,
1859. Substantial 2-storey Baronial farm steading in form
of hollow square. Harled, tooled ashlar margins and dressings.
Main elevations SE and SW, gabled wide 9 bays with slightly
advanced gabled centre bay each with tall round-headed
archway leading to inner court, at SW with pigeon loft
and flight-holes above. Slightly advanced and gabled angle
bays, with 2-storey angle drumtower at S lit by narrow
stairlights and with slated bellcast conical roof. Various
loft openings break wallhead under gablets.
Most fenestration now louvred, some 2-light glazing surviving
in drumtower. Crowstepped gables; ridge stacks and louvred
cupolas; slate roofs.
INTERIOR: poor condition. Modern grain dryer installed in
NE range.
Formerly incorporated living accommodation for farm
servants. Plans of steading, without angle drumtowers,
signed by William Bruce, architect, 1858 and incorporated
in William Smith's design.
Upgraded C(S) to B 23 September 1998.
