Description

Mid 19th century. Single storey, 3-bay S facing cottage
clasped by horse-shoe shaped former single storey
steading completing circular plan. Steading now
converted as part of dwelling and linked to cottage at
SW by set back weather-boarded porch. Harl pointed
rubble, tooled rubble dressings. Centre door of cottage
converted to window; 4-pane glazing in outer elevation
of complex but some modern glazing to inserted fenestration
in inner face. Coped end stacks; slate roof, laid in
'two-thirds' style over former byre.

Statement of Interest

Very unusual plan form on so small a scale; it is derived

from late 17th century semi-circular steading

incorporated in Dallas Lodge and the circular Round

Square at Gordonstoun, Drainie Parish.
