Description

1793. Main block 2-storey and full basement with 2
single-storey and basement back wings in U-plan arrangement.
Harled with margins and ashlar dressings, painted, main roof
piended and slated with twin central chimneys and moulded
eaves course. Main front of unusual design, centre 3-window
bow, 2/3 ellipse with R-doric fanlight doorpiece, top
balustrade and impressive balustraded perron on 2 flights
turning at right angles. 2-window flanks, drawing room has
late classical bipartite on W. inserted c. 1840. Rear wings
altered between 1887 and 1901, mansard on W., Jacobean
ogee-roofed bathroom tower inserted in E. re-entrant angle
and circular service stair tower corbelled to square with
pyramid roof on E. Interior: Adam-type ceiling to entrance
hall, good circular stairwell with cantilevered stair, good
ceiling also of Adam type design. Other rooms, simply
treated, drawing room remodelled in early Victorian times.
