Description

Early 18th century. 2-storey farmhouse of 5 irregular bays with flanking single storey piend-roofed pavilions and further later additions. Currently derelict (1990). Harled rubble.

W ELEVATION: tall round-arched doorway to centre with blind Diocletian window above at 1st floor. 2 windows and later doorway flanking at left, lean-to addition projecting to right. Windows enlarged to bipartites in outer bays at 1st floor, with wooden mullions. Door to outer right pavilion, window to left. Irregular fenestration at rear, later gabled outbuilding adjoining at right angles to right. Some 12-pane sash and case windows remaining. Grey slates to damaged roof. Ashlar coped skews, coped stacks with slate cornice.

INTERIOR: Original fireplace at 1st floor. In poor condition.

Statement of Interest

Possibly built by Duff Estate. The house occupies a prominent hill top position and is visible from Banff and Duff House policies, until the 1950s it had a stone central tower as is evidenced by the thick cross walls and patched roof.

Category change from C(S) to B, 25 February 1993.
