Dated 1840. Simple rectangular 3-bay chapel. Squared
mixed rubble frontage with contrasting tooled sandstone
dressings with some long and short detailing, harled gables,
each with centre projecting harled porch with piended roof.
3 large round-headed windows light street (S) and rear
elevations with simple Y-tracery and multi-pane glazing.
2 oculi light each gable, at E surmounted by datestone.
Apex ball finials; slate roof with tiled ridge.
ENCLOSING WALLS AND GATEPIERS: chapel enclosed by simple
coped rubble wall; pair tooled rubble gatepiers flank each
of 2 pedestrian entrances, closed by simple cast-iron
spearhead gates.
INTERIOR: re-cast interior to W. Diagonal plank front to
Communion table and door in W wall; plain plank dado and pine
pews.
Ecclesiastical building in use as such.
The Church of Scotland Minister of Boyndie parish recorded
in 1842 that he and his Whitehills congregation were
'liberally allowed' the use of the Methodist chapel on
'Sabbath evenings'.
One of the earliest surviving Methodist Chapels in NE.
