Description

Mid/late 18th century 2-storey 3-bay former inn now a
farmhouse; long rear (N) wing also 2 storeys. Rubble-built
with ashlar dressings; painted with contrasting margins. S
elevation: unfortunate gabled central porch; sash windows
with 4-pane glazing; sun insurance plate to right of central
1st floor window. Straight skews; end stacks; roofed with
graded slates. Wing extends from W end of rear of house;
altered; part domestic, part steading, with 2 roof pitches;
modern porch in re-entrant angle.
Milestone opposite, bedside main steading ranges, to E side
of (by-passed) road.

Steading ranges to E not included in listing.

Built as a staging post on the main Glasgow-Carlisle Road.
