Description

Roughly quadrangular burial ground, rubble-built walls
enclosing 18th and 19th century stone monuments, Murray aisle
and probable site of Trailtrow chapel, Repentance tower
(listed separately) incorporated at NW: gateway on N wall.
MURRAY AISLE: 1800, incorporating existing aisle
(inscription); rectangular-plan and unroofed; stugged ashlar
with polished margins, corniced W-facing gateway, eaves
course and cornice; iron gate, with inscribed panels above;
monuments on inner walls.
MONUMENTS: mostly sited near S wall of enclosure; some with
good classical ornament.

Statement of Interest

Panel on aisle inscribed "...rebuilt and considerably

enlarged and heightened in the walls by John Murray of

Murraythwaite 1800".
