Dated 1580. Oblong fortified house 4 storeys high with
stair-wings at N.W. and S.E. angles and corbelled turrets at
N.E. and S.W. angles. Rubble, slated roof. Entrance
lintels inscribed with date and monogram 'I.H.'. First
storey has three vaulted chambers and passage. Each upper
storey had two rooms 'en suite'.
Built for James Henderson of Fordell in whose family the
estate remained until recently Superseded for two centuries
by Fordell House (built 1721: dem. in recent years) but
carefully maintained, it is now occupied again.
