Description

Mid 19th century. Symmetrical single-storey row of cottages;

low central cottage flanked by taller 4-bay units with attics

(both these units originally 2 cottages - converted at west

to form one house). Snecked stugged and squared pink rubble

with ashlar dressings. Inner cottage has central door. Each

outer pair of cottages has gabled porch in outer bays, with depressed-arched doorway (1 porch removed on converted

house), inner windows, 2 dormers, straight skews, central

axial and single end stack (latter presumably to serve

central cottage). Sash windows throughout; slated roofs.

Statement of Interest

Circa 1920 photo in NMRS shows row with 4th porch, and minus

dormers. Originally 5 cottages, now 4 dwellings. Important

position in relation to bridge and marking the end of the

village street.
