Late 18th century. Northernmost of row of 4 cottages. Other 3 (Nos 5-7) altered. No 8 single-storey, harled and white-painted, centre door flanked by single windows with later 19th century timber sash and case windows with plate glass glazing. Slate roof, masonry skews, end gable stack to N. Modern mono-pitch roofed garage addition at N partially masking gable.
Auchmithie village stands on an elevated site over- looking the North Sea. It is irregularly planned and consists of simple uniformly-designed fisher cottages, generally dating from the 18th century, some rebuilt in the 1860's. Regrettably, most have been altered in recent years (1992).
No longer a fishing village Auchmithie is also of historical interest as the "Musselcrag" of Scotts' Antiquary.
