Description

Dated 1898. Large single segmental arched bridge with splayed wing walls. Random grey rubble parapet with flat bull-faced copes, rusticated red sandstone voussoirs; brick soffit. Long and short red sandstone quoins to wing walls. Red sandstone margined tablet bearing date, 1898, to centre of SE elevation; slightly plainer red sandstone tablet bearing initials, DR to NW elevation.

Statement of Interest

A fine, late 19th century bridge occupying a prominent and picturesque position on the southern approach to Clova village. The Ordnance Survey maps indicate that this bridge replaced an earlier footbridge, thereby making wheeled access to Clova possible from both the North and South sides of the river.
