Description

Andrew Wilson of Glasgow, 1934-5. Long 3-storey tenement
with shops at ground combining traditional Glasgow details
with popular 1930's decorative details. Main (west)
elevation to Clarkston Road ashlar-clad, remainder
pebble-dashed with white-rendered verandahs, red brickwork
at upper level; flat roof. West elevation: symmetrical, with
central wall-head stack, large windows with narrow mullions
and transomes, canted windows in alternate bays; some leaded
panels; decorative ironwork over paired bays. East (rear)
elevation: 4-storey central stair tower breaks forward
with tall narrow canted window linking main entrance to
roof-level balcony (latter fronting brick arch) shallow
return wing at south with tall stair window and projecting
flat segmental hood; continuous verandahs to recessed 1st
and 2nd floors; flat hoods to upper floor doors; wall-head
stacks.

Statement of Interest

Built for John MacLaren Lochead, proprietor of the land area

of Old Netherlee House. Contractor MacGlashan & Sons,

Bridgeton.
