Description

18th century, circular-plan dovecot.

Coursed rubble basalt with polished and droved sandstone ashlar dressings. Long and short surrounds to openings. Eaves course. Doorway to W, with relieving arch and smaller inner door. 5 open and blocked windows to upper section. Conical slate roof surmounted by slate-hung lead-roofed timber drum with round-arched flight holes.

INTERIOR: 664 stone nesting boxes. Remains of timber potence. Open timber roof with central drum lantern containing flight-holes.

A Group with Dundas Castle, including Blue Acre, Boat House, Brown Acre, Castleloch, Castle Grove, Dundas Castle Keep, Dundas Loch Bridge, Dundas Mains, Fountain Sundial, Ice House, Lilac Cottage, North Lodge, Rose Cottage, South Lodge and Walled Garden (see separate listings).

The exterior of the dovecot might previously have been harled.
