Description

Early 19th century rubble built pier, may date from circa 1820-1 when nearby Toward Castle was built by David Hamilton for Kirkman Finlay. Plain, east face partly bedded on exposed rock, wall carried upwards to form breakwater and ashlar coped; steps down to water at far end, also concrete repairs (?carried out by Glasgow Corporation and locals in 1950). Shoreline quayed at west.

Statement of Interest

Steel extension was built during lst war, and subsequently removed.
