Description

'Circa 1950', re-working and possible extension of building on site. Irregular single and 2-storey, 3-bay, gabled traditional Arts and Crafts house. Bull-faced, squared and snecked stone with polished ashlar margins and long and short work quoins, stone mullions and chamfered arrises; side and rear elevations of random rubble.

W (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: asymmetrical 2-storey bay to left. Wooden, partially glazed door with adjacent small slit window to left of centre under swept-roof porch extending from main roof pitch, outer left corner supported by doric column with right sweep supported on ashlar corbel and wall of outer bay. Gabled dormer over ground floor bipartite window to right, bipartite window to left with slightly reduced bipartite window at 1st floor in gable; small stone gabled dormer window over door at centre abutting full-height bay to left.

E ELEVATION: single storey. Door with adjacent slit window in advanced right bay with lean-to roof abutting gable end, centre bay with 2 irregular windows and roof-light, outer left bay blank with modern dormer.

N ELEVATION: gablet to left of 2-storey block with windows at both levels, lean-to bay to outer left with door to coal store.

S ELEVATION: single storey gable end with window bay to outer right.

Lying 10-pane glazing pattern in sash and case windows, modern dormer with 3-pane plate glass and fanlight. Grey slates. Coped ashlar stacks and overhanging eaves.

Statement of Interest

Good Arts and Crafts style dog-leg staircase with ceiling height corner posts, dado rail in drawing room. Current resident of number 4 Leslie Mains lived in this house in the early 1950s when it was adapted and extended as housing for the Head Forrester of the Leslie estate.
