Description

Circa 1770. 3-arched bridge spanning Linn Burn. Predominantly coursed and droved pink sandstone; ashlar dressings. Large, round-arched, keystoned openings; plain voussoirs; carved busts on central keystones. Continuous string courses beneath low, coped and stepped parapets with 3 bays of finialled iron railings between steps to each side. Splayed ends with coped, square-plan piers.

Paxton House Estate A Group comprises 'Boundary Walls, Railings & Gatepiers', 'Bridge', 'Dene Cottage', 'The Dower House', 'Entrance comprising South Lodge, East Lodge, Quadrant Walls, Piers & Entrance Screen', 'Garden Cottage', 'Ice House', 'North Lodge & West Lodge', 'Paxton House', 'Walled Garden' - see separate list entries. Set within the boundaries of the INVENTORY site. An impressive bridge forming part of the main approach to Paxton House. According to the INVENTORY, it is thought to have been built between 1767 and 1776.
