Description

Dated 1840, with early 19th century core and late 19th
century additions and alterations. Harled with ashlar
dressings and margins. 2-storey, wide 3-bay SE frontage,
with centre door masked by Scottish Baronial drum-tower
rising full height with square cap house corbelled out
above 1st floor, with centre window, crowsteps and apex
stack. Side entrance in tower with front window, both
linked by continuous hood mould. Wide outer bay windows,
at ground floor left masked by unfortunate modern sun
parlour. Late 19th century shaped gablets with crests over 1st
floor windows; 12- and 16-pane glazing; Crowstepped
gables; paired corniced end stacks set diagonally; slate
roof.
Extensive 2-storey rear wings of varying dates. Also
single storey, wide 2-bay wing at east linked to main
house by covered way.

Statement of Interest

Built in early 19th century as residence for Sutherland

Estates Factor; "an excellent house has been built ....

with appartment for clerks" (1820).

Drum-tower porch (without later detailing) original to

house.

House now in Local Authority Institutional use.
