Description

Thomas Telford, circa 1815. 3 parallel tunnels, measuring approximately 240' in length each, passing under Caledonian Canal, carrying below it the waters of the Allt Sheangain in 2 parallel waterways, with narrow roadway in 3rd tunnel. High semi-circular winged abutments of squared tooled rubble, with tooled rubble copes, flank canal bank, each with 3 round-headed tunnel entrances with triangular cutwaters.

Statement of Interest

Water and roadways paved with oblong sections of ashlar stone. Roadway gives access to Torcastle and other buildings, isolated between River Lochy and Caledonian Canal.

Statutory address revised in 2020. Previously listed as 'Caledonian Canal, Torcastle Acqueduct over the Allt Sheangain'.
