Statement of Interest

Knoydart was property of Macdonell of Invergarry until

circa 1853. Many crofts "cleared" as condition of sale.

Description of 1836 describes the "creel house" former

mansion, a high 2-roomed dwelling with wattled walls

(probably turfed exterior) supported by crucks "meeting

in massive arches overhead"....."in excellent keeping with

the tartans which grace its hospitable......inmates".
