Description

Barracks, 1719-21. Square walled enclosure with entrance
in centre E. 3-storey square angle towers at NE and SW.
Mirrored 3-storey over basement, symmetrical 5-bay barrack
blocks with paired outer bays; roofless.
Stables; 1734, long gabled block at W divided into two
chambers with hay loft provision and lean-to to rear
(probably saddle rooms). Also roofless.

Statement of Interest

Guardianship Monument. Barracks constructed after 1715

Jacobite rebellion to house troops maintaining law and order.

Sited on mound, which is possible site of 13th century

Comyn stronghold and later castle erected by Earls of

Huntly, later Dukes of Gordon. Scheduled.
