Description

Reginald Fairlie, 1935. Small chapel, elongated octagon.
Small canted vestry against S wall. Tooled ashlar with
polished ashlar dressings.
Centre entrance in W face, doorway reached by small flight
steps; rolled moulding to architraves, wheel window above.
Doorway flanked by long, narrow square-headed windows with
traceried heads. Similar pair window at E, all windows having
either Temperance, Prudence, Fortitude or Justice carved
on lintels. Small cruciform light high in centre of E Wall.
Vestry has centre door with simple narrow flanking windows;
panelled teak doors to both entrances; lattice-pane glazing.
Stepped base course.
Deep moulded wallhead cornices; ogee fishscale roof to chapel
with short leaded ridge linking pair leaded apex crosses.
Facetted slate roof to vestry. Interior; doorway to vestry
with similar door as entrance, metal memorial plaque above
doorway under cornice supporting further inscribed ashlar
plaque. At E small round-headed niche closed by decorative
grill containing 2 urns. Moulded timber panelled roof with
Tudor rose bosses as intersections.
Free standing altar with cusped panelled front; simple
turned communion rails.

Statement of Interest

Ecclesiastical building no longer in use as such. Sited on

small rise and screened by trees. Built by Mrs Merry of

Belladrum. Wall plaque reads "I have built this Memorial

Temple to the Glory of God to be a quiet resting place and a

holy shrine. Ida Merry of Belladrum, 14 August, 1935." Ashes

of W A Merry and Helen Eliza his wife contained in urns.
