Description

Probably Charles Doig, late 19th century. All buildings
of rubble with tooled ashlar dressings; some rubble has
been white-washed.
Distillery includes former barley drying kiln, kiln, tun
room and mash house, filling store and malt-barn.
Tall kiln with louvred 'pagoda' cupola; slightly lower barley
drying kiln, both with ogee slated roofs.
Long 2-storey, 13-bay malt-barn projects at angles with
long regular elevations roughly NW and SE, and lower 1st
floor. Slate roofs.
Duty free warehouses: gabled elevations roughly NE and
SW; 3-bay gable ends to warehouse No 1 and 4 bays to No 2.
Slate roofs.
Distillery office and Customs and Excise office: single
storey, T-plan building with entrances to respective
offices in re-entrant angles. Gabled; slate roofs.
Store: long white-washed store (possibly former piggery),
gutted internally; slate roof.
Cottage: single storey, 3-bay cottage with centre door;
4-pane glazing; end stacks; slate roof.
Manager's House: late 19th century, single storey and attic,
3-bay SW facing house. Centre door; 2 canted dormers;
4-pane glazing; projecting gabled eaves; end stacks; slate
roof.

Statement of Interest

Distillery cottages abutting A941 road not included in

listing.

Long white-washed store divided internally and with pens to

frontage on 2nd ed. OS 1905.
